This policy covers both SmartPrep products: the SmartPrep Android app and the SmartPrep Chrome extension. They share the same backend but have different data practices, described separately below. Neither product sells your data or shares it with third parties for advertising or marketing.
The Android app uses Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to collect crash reports and basic app-usage data (e.g. which screens are used, device model, OS version). This data is not linked to your name or saved recipes and is processed by Google under Firebase's terms.
When you use the share feature, the app loads the recipe page you share directly from your device to that website. SmartPrep itself does not receive or store that browsing data.
Your on-device data can be deleted by uninstalling the app.
When you save a recipe, its content (title, ingredients, steps, and source URL) is sent to our backend so it can be parsed and matched against previously-resolved recipes. This helps the extension recognize recipes it has seen before, across all users, without re-parsing the page from scratch. This request is not tied to a personal account.
The extension records which internal system resolved each recipe (e.g. backend lookup vs. AI fallback) and the confidence of that match, to help us monitor and improve accuracy. These events never include ingredient text, recipe titles, or user identity — only structural metadata.
The extension records basic interaction events (e.g. opening the cooking overlay, completing a step) tagged with the anonymous device identifier described above and the domain (not the full URL or path) of the page you were on. This is used to understand feature usage and is not linked to your identity.
Local data can be cleared by removing the extension. To request deletion of resolution or telemetry data associated with your anonymous device identifier, contact us below.
